An extremely endangered former cryptid, Hoan Kiam Turtles (scientific name: R. lelloi) are found only in Hoan Kiem Lake in Vietnam. There are thought to be anywhere between 1 & 5 still alive. Reports of these creatures go back to native legend, where a legend says a massive turtle leaped out of the water and grabbed a sword out of a man's hand. A museum sports the shell of one of these turtles that was (supposedly) 500+ years old, so old enough to be the creature of the legend (if the legend was true). The Hoan Kiem turtle was regarded as legend until the 1980s, when the turtles were filmed several times and several lived specimens were captured.
