An artist's depiction

The term Megalodon, while also referring to a species of prehistoric, massive sharks, is used to name large, cryptid sharks seen in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

Appearance & Description[]

While it is unknown what the prehistoric Megalodon looked like (the only fossils of it are teeth), the modern Megalodon is described as looking similar to a Great White Shark, but being 100+ feet long.

Theories/Explanations[]

The most common explanation for the Megalodon is that it is a prehistoric survivor; but others say it could be an over sized Great White Shark, or a completely new species.
